The Role
As the Appointed Person, you will be responsible for the safe planning, coordination, and execution of lifting operations across site activities. Working closely with site management, crane operators, supervisors, and subcontractors, you will ensure all lifting operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with current legislation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and authorise lift plans for routine and complex lifting operations.
- Produce and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure compliance with LOLER, BS 7121, and all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Select suitable cranes, lifting equipment, and lifting accessories for planned operations.
- Conduct site surveys and assess lifting requirements, ground conditions, and potential hazards.
- Coordinate lifting activities with site teams and subcontractors.
- Brief Crane Supervisors, Slinger Signallers, and lifting personnel on lift plans and safe systems of work.
- Monitor lifting operations to ensure adherence to approved procedures.
- Maintain all lifting documentation and records.
- Identify and implement improvements to lifting practices and site safety.
- Support site management in maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational performance.
- CPCS A61 Appointed Person qualification (or NPORS equivalent).
- Proven experience in planning and managing lifting operations within construction, industrial, infrastructure, or heavy civils environments.
- Thorough understanding of LOLER regulations and BS 7121 standards.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to produce comprehensive lift plans and associated documentation.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or port-related projects.
- Additional CPCS qualifications.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
